Yeah genres are subjective and overated! I find it an easy way to classify bands in my collection to help me choose what i feel like listening to or reccomending bands people may like, but i dislike the whole Post-hardcore-premovement-blackened-death-crossgrindd... analism some people put on genres

basically I'll call a band melodic black metal, and that's as specific as I need to be

oh yeah!! like in the dvd! by the my viking friend... i share pretty much your opinion about viking metal. one of the fewest opinions i liked to hear about one of my favorite styles of metal in a long time

They had a viking fight on stage 06 i think.. i think it was 06 my wacken years are blurry!

haven't really had a problem with it personally, in other words I haven't really run into it

i use Black, Death, Grind etc some sub classifcations like Viking, Pirate! for Alestorm cos they really are a genre of thier own!, also things like Melodic and Brutal to guage the sound im looking for for instance Old School Thrash, or Melodic Black or Blackened Doom

I also avoid NSBM..

actually most people even say Amon Amarth and Unleashed are not Viking Metal, coz they aren't black metal, with viking lyrics and musical influences

Nope just not listened to them in a long time!! The One Insane!!! Dun Dun Dun dur Du Der Dun
