    hm, i think you are a little late for B&B / Hotel arround Wacken. You could try it HERE. The language could be a problem, but you should try it. There will be a shuttle-service to Itzehoe, so try to get your room as close as possible to Itzehoe. Good Luck !

    How much german will I need to understand?

    like Alix said... a few german skills could be usefull, especially outside of Wacken (airport, trainsation, bus, city....) but not necessary. A dictionary or a translation app on a cellphone should be enaugh.

    Wenn du halbwegs sichergehen willst, solltest du dich direkt Montag/Dienstag nach dem Festival um die Karten fürs nächste Jahr kümmern. Ist zwar total irre was da abgeht, aber so ist es nunmal - Augen zu und durch. Und verkaufen geht, wie du ja schon festgestellt hast, immer.
