is metal a predominantly white subculture??

This is something that deeply interests me, but unfortunately I have had bad luck with this issue.Tried to start a discussion on another board about it, sadly the result of that is that my bad opinion of the average british metalhead is still standing- and there is nothing good about it. Nevermind.
So- here comes the question: is metal a predominantly white subculture?? If so, why?

I know some non white people who listen metal tho... and in japan metal is pretty big... so over here it's probably a white subculture because most people over here are white....

atleast that is what I think.

Metal is very big in Asia, but in Europe I think it's mainly caucasians that listen to it.

i think the metal part is useless. i mean, I listen to many forms of music and go to various other festivals, all of which seem to be attended by a very large majority of white people with bands made of mainly of white people.

it would be more interesting if you looked at areas where the white/black population is roughly 50/50. then see who goes to the rock & metal shows...
