Vreid used to be Windir. Which was a band from Sogndal, Norway. Very traditional Norwegian (folky, pagan, patriotic, not NSBM, but very "Norwegian sounding") band. Windir's singer Terje Bakken died in the mountains, basically froze to death.

So the remaining members went on and formed Vreid, which is similar sounding but perhaps a bit more traditional black metal than Windir were. Not a bad group, I prefer Taake over them in that vein. Vreid needless to say are from Sogndal. Very small town next to a fjord. You can imagine what their music resembles. I'll check em out too since I've never seen them and I doubt they're ever coming to America. But WOA can do better IMO.

I know of Windir and Terje's passing (rip) but hadn't heard of Vreid. I like Windir even though I don't like much folky vikingy stuff so I'll give Vreid a good listen.
